In 2011, she defended her dissertation Claiming Space: Discourses on Gender, Popular Music, and Social Change at the University of Gothenburg. Björck analysed the linguistic metaphors which were used when talking about the projects and her results were that it is often about claiming space. In the further course of the presentation she discussed how ideas about gender equality in music relate to themes such as freedom/limitation, visibility/invisibility, and neoliberal/social justice
